Simandou project: the head of the Guinean junta, Mamadi Doumbouya, visits the facilities of China Baowu Steel Group

On the sidelines of his participation in the summit on China-Africa cooperation, the President of the Guinean Transition, Gen Mamadi Doumbouya, visited the facilities of Baowu Steel Group, a Chinese steel giant, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

First welcomed by the vice-mayor of the city of Sanghai, Mamadi DOUMBOUYA was given a guided tour of the Baowu facilities, led by the group's CEO, Hu Wangming. He visited, among other things, the "hot rolling plant and the operations and control center" of the world's number one steel company.

During the visit, Mamadi Doumbouya was accompanied by his wife Laurianne Doumbouya, his chief of staff, Djiba Diakité – who heads the strategic committee of the Simandou project – the Minister of Mines and Geology, Bouna Sylla, and other executives of the Guinean administration. As a reminder, Hu Wangming met Mamadi DOUMBOUYA during his visit to Guinea on April 12, 2024. The Simandou project is built around four blocks, with Winning Consortium Simandou and its partners holding Blocks I and II and Rio Tinto and its partner Chinalco holding Blocks III and IV.
