The change of regime in Guinea on September 5, 2021, does not affect the activities of the Société Minière de Boké (SMB). Established in Guinea since the reign of Alpha Conde (2015), the company continues its activities.

This Thursday, February 17, 2022 at a press conference in Conakry, the General Manager of SMB said he was satisfied with the measures taken by the transitional authorities which, according to him, have allowed mining activities to continue.

"We have noted with great satisfaction all the measures that were taken in the aftermath of the events of September 5. The first measure concerned the COVID -19 related curfew. Very soon, this curfew was relaxed in the mining sector because it was necessary for our teams to continue working 24 hours a day. So, there was a rapid relaxation. The second thing is the closure of the borders. Here too, there were exceptional measures that allowed the continuation of sea, air traffic with expatriates and spare parts coming in easily. We have not suffered at all from this (Coup d'Etat of September 5, editor's note),", said Frederic Bouziques.

After the coup of September 5, 2021, many observers feared that the leaders of the National Committee of the Rally for Development (CNRD) would suspend or even revoke the operating licenses of mining companies. A few days after the putsch, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, the junta leader, announced that mining activities were not suspended. This statement was a relief for mining companies in general and for those who obtained their permits under Alpha Conde in particular.
