In an official publication on April 4, 2025, Rio Tinto SimFer announces the completion of the installation of the bridge pillars and abutments necessary for the construction of the five bridges to be built on the railway spur that will connect its iron mine of blocks 3 and 4 on Mount Simandou, in the prefecture of Beyla, to the main railway line (the Trans Guinean) in the prefecture of Kérouané.
These are "45 pillars and 10 bridge abutments that have been completed; when stacked vertically, this represents a total length of 852 meters, which is 24 meters longer than the Burj Khalifa, the tallest human structure ever built. The tallest pillar rises to 27.5 m above the ground, approximately the height of a 10-storey building," according to the announcement made by the joint venture owned by the Anglo-Australian firm, Rio Tinto, China Iron Ore Holdings (a subsidiary of the Chinese company Chinalco) and the Guinean government.
This announcement reinforces the hope that the work related to the implementation of the gigantic project on the Simandou will be completed in order to see the first tons of iron exported by the end of 2025 or early 2026, as planned by the various actors working on Simandou.
